bucket filling.

we use bucket filling as a way to encourage one another in our room. this means that each child has a small pocket hanging on the back door of the class and another person can write compliments on a slip of paper and put it in the pockets. we call it bucket filling because your heart is like a bucket of water. someone can dip in and drain you by being discouraging or hurtful. other people can pour into you and fill you up by being kind and encouraging. my kids love it.

if only they understood that this was not a dating service. a few of these dating encouragements have been confiscated from one particular boy's bucket (all in reference to the same little girl).

"just hug her already."
"you know she likes you."
"when will you hold her hand?"
"you are a great couple."
"she's the one."

and my personal favorite....

"ok. i really like you. but don't tell anyone, ok?    love, .........   "

immediately followed by.....

"let's just be friends.      love,   .........  "
